Charles “Charley” Harper was born in West Virginia in 1922. He met his wife Edie on his first day of art school. He left the family farm to go there. They married when he was 25. Harper spent decades creating his meticulously whimsical prints of birds. He began by creating covers for Ford Times. Later, he designed the Big Golden Book of Biology.

Many of you might be familiar with interior designer Todd Oldham. Oldham found Harper’s prints only to realize that he loved the Big Golden Book of Biology when he was a child. Oldham helped create a gigantic Charley Harper coffee table that is absolutely lovely.

Harper passed away in 2007, but he remains a hero to many residents of Ohio. His colorful prints live on in children’s books and games. Charley Harper has been gaining a lot of popularity in the past 5 years and we hope that this is just the beginning!
